The Orthopedic Expert Marc J. Rosen, MD

Orthopedic surgeon expert witness Dr. Rosen has practiced orthopedic surgery in Phoenix Arizona since 1981. During this time he has become well known both on a local level and nationally with his involvement in professional organizations and, as an advocate for healthcare quality and accountability. For three decades he has been involved in quality assurance, peer review activities, and as orthopedic expert witness. During this time has served as independent medical examiner, and provided orthopedic expert witness testimony for both defendant and plaintiff always with the guiding principle that evidenced based medicine in peer reviewed publications coupled with ethical practice are the foundations of justice in the medical-legal arena. Only in keeping with these strict guidelines can his opinions be counted upon to be irrefutable in any venue for which they are requested.

Marc Rosen graduated from the Ohio State University in 1972 majoring in English and pre-medical studies. He attended the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine receiving the degree Doctor of Medicine in 1976. Internship and residency in orthopedic surgery were completed at the University of Cincinnati Hospitals with a brief externship at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He is licensed currently in the states of Arizona and Ohio. Dr. Rosen is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and, a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Dr. Rosen holds many leadership positions in his specialty. From 2007-2013 he has been elected to the Board of Councilors of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He serves on the board of the Western Orthopedic Association. He has been elected a fellow of the American Orthopedic Association and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Each year as part of the National Orthopedic Leadership Conference he has lobbied in the halls of congress for patient access to quality specialty care. See Medical Associations and Memberships.

On the local level he has devoted himself to the highest standards of professionalism as the president of the Maricopa County Medical Society and the Arizona Orthopedic Society. He has been both hospital chief of staff and chief of surgery, for many years serving on hospital quality assurance, credentials and, executive committees. In the community his activism is highly visible as a board member of the Greater Southwest Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.

For many years he served as vice president of the OSNA (Orthopedic Surgeons Network of Arizona) has now become the largest single specialty orthopedic group in Arizona and he continues to play an active role in the successor organization. Orthopedic surgeon expert witness Dr. Rosen is president and senior partner in Phoenix Orthopedic Consultants. In addition to his roles as an orthopedic expert witness, he has provided regional peer review and quality assurance committee work for the insurance industry. He serves as a consultant to the orthopedic industry and has participated in product design and evaluation. Academic interests are in the area of adult reconstructive surgery, hip and knee replacement surgery, orthopedic nursing and rehabilitation, prevention of venous thrombosis (DVT), and blood loss in orthopedic procedures.

Dr. Marc Rosen addressed the 2012 "Oscar Night America" gala benefiting the Greater Southwest Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation at the Arizona Biltmore. Dr. Rosen was honored as the medical chairman for this event for his involvement in community activities benefiting the 1.1 million arthritis patients of Arizona.

Dr. Rosen's professional activities have allowed ample opportunity to share opinions with leaders in his field and with our country's leading opinion makers. He maintains an active dialog on healthcare policy. The full time practice of orthopedic surgery has however, not stood in the way of personal development and pursuit of the active lifestyle he promotes for those entrusted to his care. He is an avid fitness enthusiast and enjoys the outdoors.

Recreational pursuits includes alpine skiing, fly-fishing, motorcycle touring, and hiking. He has earned a private pilot's license, climbed Mt. Rainier, Mt. Shasta, Mt. Whitney, and became a marksman with pistol, rifle and shotgun. When interviewed for a "Phoenix Magazine" article about her father his daughter opined, "My dad thinks he's James Bond!".
